When "study" turned into "party" mid-lecture

In 3rd-period Algebra, a glare from the window made my “STUDY” look like “PARTY,” and half the class started air-confetti while my Deaf student gave me the most patient side-eye. I paused, reset the handshape, fingerspelled S-T-U-D-Y, and did a quick check-in so everyone stayed with the concept and the joke, but it reminded me how tiny adjustments keep access intact. What’s your funniest mis-seen sign, and how did you repair meaning without leaving anyone out?

“keep access intact.” I had my QUIZ read as PIZZA in 6th-grade science, and my fix is to pop a matte-black folder behind my hands, show the contrast once (QUIZ/PIZZA), then fingerspell and move to a new spot out of the glare. If I don’t have the folder, I do one quick reset tap and repeat slower so the hearing kids clock the shift too — anyone else use a prop?

And > reset tap and repeat slower so the hearing kids clock the shift too — anyone else use a I keep a matte 4x6 contrast card on a badge reel and drop it under my hands for 3–5 seconds, then retract — fast anchor for STUDY/PARTY without shifting spots; @lsimons58 your folder hack inspired it, but I cap it at twice a class so it doesn’t steal focus.

Same mid-lecture glare here in 3rd period — I stash a plain black compression sleeve and slide it on my forearm so ‘STUDY’ doesn’t morph into ‘PARTY,’ then take one step left out of the hotspot, @lsimons58. Tiny caveat: it’s warmer, but it’s faster than fumbling for props and my Deaf student clocks the fix immediately.
